- **Event Description**: Attention Portland Gothic community and neighboring cities! It's that time of year again when we head to the Clackamas River to float 4.5 miles from Barton Park to Carver Park. The float is roughly 5 hours, including lunch break. 

EVENT DETAILS:

This event is free except for parking. To make your float the most enjoyable and safest as possible, please read the event description in its entirety. Also, check the Discussion board here in the event invite for helpful links like river tube suggestions, where to buy gear, what to bring to make your float more enjoyable/comfortable, and what to expect overall.

10:30AM - 11:30AM | SETUP | once you have entered the park, follow the road all the way to the boat ramp. Look for a black sedan parked near the boat ramp, that is the meeting point.

IMPORTANT!!!!: As in prior years, Barton will likely reach capacity with the gates closing around 11:00AM, so plan accordingly and plan to arrive early or you’ll run the risk of not getting in the park. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU GET INTO THE PARK BY 10:30AM, at the latest.

12:00PM | LAUNCH | This is when we'll be getting on the river, so please make sure that your tube is inflated and you are at the loading dock ready to go by 12:00 sharp. We will not wait for stragglers.

LUNCH: We will be stopping 1/2 way down the river to get out and have a packed lunch on the bank and take a break. Word of advice, put your lunch in a waterproof bag.

CHECKLIST:
- float suitable for a river
- water “dry bag” for belongings (recommended size: 10L)
- water shoes, NOT flip flops. The river bed is slippery rocks and they hurt like hell on bare feet.
- paddle (highly recommended so you can navigate safely)
- food + beverages (stay hydrated!)
- sunscreen
- air pump for your float that has an adaptor for a car.
- vinyl patch kit (just in case)

IMPORTANT: Bring river tubes that are made for river floating, anything made for a swimming pool might not last when you scrape rocks in the shallow areas. Recommended Brand: “Intex River Run I” tubes. 

TUBE RENTAL: You can rent a tube w/air pump from Oregon River Rentals: http://oregonriverrentals.com/reservations/. If you wish to buy a tube (which I highly recommend as a used float can be questionable regarding durability) please go through the Discussion board on this invite for links on where/what to buy.

IF YOU ARE BRINGING SMALL CHILDREN: put a life vest on them. no exceptions (please). While the Clackamas is an easygoing body of water, there are sections with whirlpools. Drownings have happened, even by strong teenagers.

SUGGESTIONS FOR WHAT TO BRING: Please check out the posts that I will make here on the event invite as we get closer to the date for a list of great suggestions on quality inner tubes, gear, accessories, etc.

PARKING & TRANSPORTATION: There is no shuttle service running between Barton/Carver this year. You can either coordinate with friends to leave a 2nd vehicle at the End Point (Carver Park) and then all pile in and ride in another vehicle up to the Starting Point (Barton Park); or you can catch a Uber back to the Starting Point. Lyft does not operate in the area. 

IMPORTANT: The Carver Park (End Point) parking lot is small and is totally full by 10:30AM on a hot day, so plan accordingly.
