When mysterious candymaker Willy Wonka announces a contest allowing a group of lucky children to tour his whimsical chocolate factory, the entire world goes wild with expectation and imagines endless possibilities of what his sugar-coated paradise might contain.
So goes the story BeanStalk Community Theatre tells in its upcoming production of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, and so begins the Golden Ticket search inspired by it at the Boone Mast General Store. Each Saturday prior to the show’s debut, a Golden Ticket will appear somewhere in the store. This “ticket” will include a Mast Store Gift Card and a pair of actual tickets to the show’s performance at the Appalachian Theatre, 7 p.m., Thursday, July 24.
Those eager to become a part of this dreamy, delicious tale might benefit from a familiar riddle:
Oompa, Loompa, doompa-dee-do,
Golden Ticket seekers, here is a clue:
Our general store is filled with many wares and apparel,
But look too closely and you’ll get yourself over a barrel.

Good luck to all those searching for a Golden Ticket, but don’t worry if you don’t find one. You’ll have another chance to win a pair of tickets to the performance if you come closest to guessing the correct number of Wonka gumballs in a jar. Willy Wonka himself will hand-deliver this prize on Sunday, July 20, and guests will have the opportunity to cast their best estimate a week prior to his visit.
