CUSTER’S GRASS BAND is one of the Northwest’s “first generation” bluegrass bands. Formed in 1976,
the band recorded what can be considered “the first” LP bluegrass album in the state of Washington.
The album, “Custer’s Grass Band” included special instrumental contributions by Grammy winning fiddle
virtuoso, Mark O’Connor.
Over the last three decades the band has appeared at dozens of colleges, festivals, and music venues
throughout the greater Pacific Northwest and Canada.
Today the band features two of the original “1976” members with Bob Asbury on banjo, and Les Panther
playing guitar and dobro. Newer additions to the band feature; Terry Ludiker, mandolin/fiddle and Scott
Brownlee on the bass fiddle.
CGB, remains committed to delivering that “high lonesome” sound fundamental to the bluegrass genre.
