NPR calls Curtis Salgado “an icon” with “a huge voice,” an award-winning vocalist, harmonica player, and songwriter whose music moves between blues, soul, gospel, R&B, funk, rock ’n’ roll, and jazz without ever losing its emotional center. His live shows are built around that full-bodied vocal power, deep groove, and songs that land with clarity and punch—original writing marked by heart, grit, and sharp turns of phrase. His latest release, Fine By Me, highlights the full range of his sound, moving from gospel-leaning intensity to straight-up soul and blues with vivid, character-driven storytelling.
Shaped by the sounds of Ray Charles, Muddy Waters, Otis Redding, O.V. Wright, and Little Walter, Salgado earned his reputation onstage—first in local bands, then as a co-leader in The Robert Cray Band, later fronting Roomful of Blues, and ultimately leading his own projects. His story is threaded through American music history, including his connection to John Belushi during the filming of Animal House, and years of sharing stages with artists such as Muddy Waters, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Albert Collins, and Bonnie Raitt. Touring has taken him from major U.S. festivals to international stages across Europe, South America, and Asia.
