Head up the mountain for a brand-new field trip exploring the geology of Bogus Basin!✨ What you'll learn: How geology controls the distribution of gold in the area, and how specific granite veins (pegmatites) act as roadmaps showing where gold is (or isn't).We will meet at Frontier Point/Nordic Lodge 16.3 miles up Bogus Basin Road at 10 am. PLEASE ALLOW 45 MINUTES for driving this route. This is a mile or so past the main Simplot Lodge. The roads are paved except for the last 4 miles, which is a dirt road suitable for most (but not all) vehicles. Higher Clearance/AWD vehicles are preferred. Not suitable for low-profile vehicles. The trip leaders will arrange carpools for drivers of low-profile vehicles.🌸 Bonus Hike: Stick around after the main event for an optional, moderately difficult trek on the Mores Mountain Interpretive Loop Trail. Enjoy pathways ranging from 1.2 to 2.5 miles winding through alpine meadows filled with summer wildflowers and butterflies.Bring lunch, snacks, and water.
