The High North is rich in natural resources, which opens a significant potential for regional economic growth. However, this requires that all stakeholders involved in the Northern territories are able to address and solve problems that are unique to the Arctic.

As of today, there is a claim that the growing use of ICT technology and “smart” city-, community-, region- and governance can potentially contribute to a “smarter” economic, social and environmental development of the Northern regions and open up new areas for public innovation. However, while interest in “Smartness” is growing, holistic initiatives are rather uncommon in the High North.

This seminar aims to share existing experiences of “Smart” initiatives in the Arctic and discuss potential challenges and opportunities for business development in a frame of blue economy, technology, and society demands.

The seminar assembles various stakeholders from Norway and abroad, representing industry, governmental and non-governmental bodies, higher education and research institutions.
