- **Event Name**: Dig,Make,Fire - a two day free China Clay workshop
- **Event Start and End Date**: Fri, 08 May, 2026 at 10:00 am (+01:00)
- **Event Description**: Hosted by Rose Martin, a well established artist and founder of Brickfield CIC in St Austell, with years of experience running workshops using industrial waste, this two day event will be an exploration of the area's China Clay Heritage. She will be supported by Tim Hutton, an artist and woodworker, who has lived alongside the old china clay pipeline for most of his life.

Day 1 morning will be a walk and talk about the Stannon Clay works and will follow a section of the pipeline that used to carry the liquid China Clay which ran from the foot of Roughtor to Wenford Dries through the village of St Breward.
We shall dig clay from an old spillage site beside the River Camel and look at the ecological impact and recovery of the area.
In the afternoon we will process the clay into a workable body of clay so that it can be used on......

Day 2 will look at some of the pre-historic pottery finds from the area and the decoration which was often made with imprinted natural cordage. We will use these examples and the natural finds from the first day as inspiration for making clay objects like tiles, pots or more abstract pieces decorated with patterns from natural found objects and cordage which we will make from dried nettles and other materials.

On the Bioblitz Open Day on the 30th May the intention is to fire the work in an experimental kiln.
