The Signing of the Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence will be signed again on March 14th at 7:00 pm in Gross
Auditorium, Carver Hall on the campus of Commonwealth University – Bloomsburg.
As part of Columbia and Montour Counties’ America 250 PA celebration, a reenactment of the
signing will be the program, “When in the Course of Human Events…Signing the Declaration of
Independence.”
The event will also feature the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble’s production of The Amazing Mr.
Franklin, a revival of a popular play from the group’s Theare in the Classroom series.
The host/narrator of the Declaration story will be Jerry Stropnicky, an actor/director/writer, well
known in the region for his years of work with the Theatre Ensemble.
The reenactment of the signing was created especially for the counties’ America 250 efforts by
the University’s staff, students and faculty from the History Department with Columbia County
Commissioner David Kovatch.
“We are celebrating the great experiment called America.,” says Columbia County Kovatch
when he describes the program which he envisioned.
The patriots signing the document on stage will be community members from Columbia and
Montour Counties.
The Amazing Mr. Franklin is a lighthearted interactive play about the Founding Father and
Pennsylvanian Benjamin Franklin’s inventions, accomplishments and philosophies. It’s family friendly and suitable for kids from kindergarten through grade eight. It can be booked by schools
through the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble.
Admission is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 pm on March 14th
.
Free Commemorative tickets and pocket copies of the Declaration of Independence and U.S.
Constitution from the University’s American Democracy Project will be available.
