Join us for the public opening celebration on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 12:00–3:00 PM.

Experience an exclusive, one-time-only tour led by collection donor Marjorie Ransom at 12:30 PM, followed by a special exhibition introduction by the lead curator Kaila Cogdill at 1:30 PM.

Light refreshments will be served, including locally baked cookies from Hive.

About the Exhibition:

"The Journey of Women: Yemeni Jewelry & Social Growth" features silver jewelry and textiles created for and worn by Yemeni women, showcasing the meticulous craftmanship of skilled silversmiths and recognizing the role of jewelry as a source of autonomy for women in Yemeni society. These intricate silver pieces play a major role throughout the lives of Yemeni women, following them through the transition from girlhood to womanhood all while preserving their cultural heritage, identity, and lifeways.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our guest curators and community partners Fatima Al Zawya and Najwa Adra, Ph.D, whose contributions and feedback were pivotal in the development of this exhibition.

This exhibition was made possible through the generous donation of the David and Marjorie Ransom Collection of Yemeni Jewelry by Ms. Marjorie Ransom, a former U.S. diplomat to Yemen and author of "Silver Treasures from the Land of Sheba: Regional Yemeni Jewelry." Ms. Ransom’s book featuring the Collection is considered the first of its kind to provide a comprehensive look at Yemeni silver jewelry from the different regions of Yemen.

Parking Information:

Limited complimentary parking is available in front of the museum entrance off Indiana Avenue. Street parking is free on weekends in the neighborhoods surrounding the museum and at the nearby Poplars Garage. Paid parking options include the McCalla Building lot off Indiana Avenue, the Indiana Memorial Union lots, and metered street parking in the downtown/Sample Gates area.
