We hear you! We want to give more people a chance to perform, so we're doing a name-in-a-hat event!
Sign-ups will happen AT THE EVENT. Please arrive on time to get your name in a 'hat.' We'll have separate containers for the open mic and for the slam, get your name into those and we'll pull names randomly when the show gets going.
Sign-ups will occur between 8:30-8:50pm, so be on time if you want to perform!
Join us and your local wordsmiths for a night of poetry, libations, and passion! The night begins with an open mic featuring local artists, singers, musicians, and writers then ends with a poetry slam.
If you've ever considered performing but needed extra encouragement, consider this it! Open mic is open to all types of stage performance. Slam is all original work, competition style.

Featured Poet for November is Ellise Smith!
Ellise is a Detroit native who won her first slam here in Bloomington. After receiving her Masters, she continued her education by pursuing her Ph.D. in Urban Education Studies at IU-Indianapolis where she researches the experiences of fat bodies. Ellise uses spoken word as a platform to share the narratives she has experiences as a fat, Black woman. Her style of spoken word adapts freestyle lyricism and humor to capture moments of her life while engaging the audience. The overall goal of Ellise's work is to share the experiences of bodies that are often silenced.
Ellise was once a regular performer at the Bloomington Poetry Slam, and won several slams during her tenure in Bloomington! We are delighted to have her return as a featured poet for November.
