As part of the annual Sophia Gray Memorial Lecture and Exhibition presented by the Department of Architecture at the University of the Free State, Oliewenhuis Art Museum is proud to host the exhibition Spatial Tactics by this year's laureates, SAVAGE + DODD Architects.

The exhibition opening will take place at 21:00 at Oliewenhuis Art Museum, following the 37th Annual Sophia Gray Memorial Lecture at the Fairview Conference Centre (formerly SEDCOM).
The Sophia Gray Memorial Lecture and Exhibition has been presented annually since 1989 and honours Sophia Gray, the first active professional architect in Bloemfontein and the first woman architect in South Africa. The series celebrates the contribution of architecture to society and provides an important platform for architectural thought, practice and exchange.

Spatial Tactics will be presented in the Main Building of Oliewenhuis Art Museum from 27 August until 4 October 2026, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with the work and ideas of SAVAGE + DODD Architects.

We look forward to welcoming you to Oliewenhuis Art Museum for the opening of Spatial Tactics and an evening celebrating architecture, design and creative practice.

Oliewenhuis Art Museum is located at 16 Harry Smith Street, Bloemfontein and is open to the public from Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 17:00, and on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays between 09:00 and 16:00. Please note that the main gate closes to new arrivals at 16:30 on weekdays and 15:30 on weekends; however, visitors already inside are welcome to enjoy the museum until closing time. A ramp at the main entrance provides wheelchair access, while a lift provides access to the Permanent Collection display areas on the 1st floor. A parking fee of R10 per vehicle is charged, but entrance to the museum is free.
