Join us to remove invasive Tilapia on the Sunshine Coast!
Tilapia are among the most damaging invasive fish species in Queensland. Introduced in the 1970s via the aquarium trade, they have since spread rapidly through freshwater systems across the state and are disrupting aquatic habitats, outcompeting native fish for food and breeding space, and degrading water quality.
The OzFish Sunshine Coast chapter invites you to learn more about this invasive species and help reduce their numbers in the Sunny Coast region. Join us for a fish in Bli Bli and compete for a number of prizes.
All registered participants will receive one entry into a raffle prize, with OzFish members getting an additional entry.
OzFish is committed to sustainable fishing practices. All native species caught must be safely released, and proper fish handling practices must be followed.

Date: Sunday 7 December 2024
Time: 6am – 12:30pm AEST
Venue: Parklake Sports Complex, 914 Yandina Bli Bli Rd, Bli Bli QLD 4560
Parking is available in the Bli Bli United Football Club Carpark.
What to bring
Hat and sunscreen.
Drink bottle and snacks.
Fishing gear (some extras are available on the day).
Rules
Only barbless hooks and circle hooks may be used.
Any tilapia or other pest species caught must be brought to the designated area for weigh-in and disposal. They must not be returned to the water or taken off site under any circumstances.
All pest species must be humanely euthanised.
Any native species caught must be returned to the water unharmed. If you are unsure whether the fish you’ve caught is a pest or native species, ask one of our OzFish staff members to help identify it.
Fishing is limited to the designated area (see map).
Prizes will be awarded to the individual who catches the most tilapia and the largest tilapia (based on weight), with an additional raffle prize.
