The Plot: In a nutshell, Shakespeare has writer’s block and unwittingly hires a woman as an actor. It is a wildly playful, funny, and romantic work of historical fiction.

The cast: Approximately 20 actors, a range of ages, some doubling of roles. See boathousetheatre.co.nz for a full description of the roles.

Shakespeare in Love is a play with music, adapted for the stage by Tony Award® and Olivier Award® -winning writer Lee Hall, based on the screenplay by Academy Award®-winning writer Marc Norman and Tony Award®, Olivier Award®, and Academy Award®-winning writer Tom Stoppard.

Our production from April 15th to 25th 2026 will be directed by Pam Logan, KSM, with Amanda Tollemache as Assistant Director.

We would also love to hear from anyone keen to assist backstage in any area.
