Driven by a lifelong passion for music, Charlie B—better known as Optimus Gryme—has spent more than two decades helping shape New Zealand’s bass music landscape. His journey began in the 1990s with hip hop, progressing from schoolyard performances to playing in front of thousands alongside artists such as Che Fu and King Kapisi.

In 2009, Optimus Gryme made history by releasing New Zealand’s first Dubstep 12-inch record. He went on to release a solo album and create official remixes for some of the country’s biggest names, including Shapeshifter, Shihad, Six60, Tiki Taane and Dub FX.

Across his career, he has performed more than a thousand shows and appeared at major festivals including Homegrown, Rhythm & Vines and Northern Bass. Following a two-year hiatus, he returned in 2020 with his Drum & Bass EP, Welcome to the Streets, continuing a musical journey that shows no sign of slowing down.

Now, Optimus Gryme is bringing that experience to The Yard Bar for a headline set packed with Dubstep, Drum & Bass, heavyweight low-end pressure and unmistakable sound system energy.

Supporting the night is a stacked line-up of Nelson and Marlborough selectors:
