Curious about the incredible wetland species we have here in the Pacific Northwest exclusively during the winter? Join professional naturalist and experienced birder Kate Brown for a relaxed Sunday morning bird walk at Semiahmoo. We will chat about what to look and listen for while birding, discuss some of the common wetland species we are likely to spot and what makes them unique- then set out with our binoculars and scope to see what amazing birds we can spot! Bring your coffee, donuts, and any binoculars you might have (I own a few to share!) Species commonly sighted here include diverse winter birds such as Harlequin Ducks, Northern Pintails, Black Scoter, Brant and Bufflehead.
Accessibility Note: We will be meeting at Semiahmoo Park, at the parking lot closest to the cannery building, the lot is directly on your left after you drive onto the spit. Don't drive all the way down the spit! This area is about 30 miutes from downtown bellingham. The entirety of the trail is completely flat packed dirt/gravel, or paved, and we might venture onto the sandy shore. There are bathroom facilities at the trailhead. Ages16+.
