Meet at Semiahmoo County Park parking lot.
This winter has been an exciting one for birding on the waters of Semiahmoo Bay and Drayton Harbor and, hopefully, that will only get better as we get closer to spring. At this time of year we can often find over 40 bird species if the weather is cooperative. This should include about a dozen species of ducks including Harlequins and Long-tailed Ducks, two species each of cormorants and geese, about three species each of grebes, loons and gulls as well as a four or more species of shorebirds. Bald Eagles are nesting nearby and we can expect to see Northern Flickers, Anna’s Hummingbirds, Belted Kingfishers and, hopefully, we should be able to locate about a dozen species of passerines along the spit.
Please check the weather forecast and come prepared. Whether you are an experienced birder or just getting started, you are welcome to join us. Please ask questions and for assistance in locating birds as needed. As the weather allows, we will want to walk the length of the spit from the park to the mouth of the harbor and return, about three miles. Please register and join us for what is almost always a memorable birding experience.
