Join us at Historic Smithfield for Roots & Routes, an evening of two compelling talks that take a nuanced, honest look at one of the New River Valley's founding families. From the circumstances that carried them across the Atlantic to the complex — and often contradictory — legacy they left on the Virginia frontier, these presentations will challenge you to think deeply about the ambitions and tensions woven into early American settlement.

Together, the talks invite us to learn more about the Prestons, a local founding family whose story is neither simple nor comfortable — and all the more important for it.

This event is part of Historic Smithfield's ongoing programming exploring the layered history of our region. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a local, or just curious, this is a conversation worth having.

This free event will be held at the Pavilion at Historic Smithfield.  The Pavilion is ADA accessible.  Call for accommodations.
