Town in England
Blackpool is a seaside resort on the Irish Sea coast of England. It's known for Blackpool Pleasure Beach, an old-school amusement park with vintage wooden roller coasters. Built in 1894, the landmark Blackpool Tower houses a circus, a glass viewing platform and the Tower Ballroom, where dancers twirl to the music of a Wurlitzer organ. Blackpool Illuminations is an annual light show along the Promenade.
The historic Blackpool Tramway runs along the seafront Promenade, home to 3 Victorian-era piers. Central Pier has an iconic 33m-high Ferris wheel along with arcades and bars, and North and South piers offer rides, food vendors and live shows, some of them free of charge. The Winter Gardens entertainment complex includes the gilded Empress Ballroom, a roughly 3,000-seat Opera House and a restaurant that hosts wine and cheese tastings. The Grand Theatre is distinguished by its elaborate ceilings with gold-leaf mouldings and murals.
