iHV Perinatal & Infant Mental Health Awareness Training Day
Perinatal mental illnesses are a leading cause of maternal deaths during pregnancy and the first year after birth. Between 10 and 20% of women develop a mental illness during pregnancy and the first year after birth. Half of all cases of perinatal depression and anxiety go undetected and many of those which are detected fail to receive the right help. Perinatal mental illness costs the UK £8.1 billion for each one year cohort of births. Of these costs 28% relate to the mother and 72% relate to the child (Bauer et al, 2014).
This one-day Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Awareness Training will be delivered by local Champions who have been trained through the Institute of Health Visiting. The aim of the training is to increase knowledge of:
Perinatal Illness and why it matters
National and local policies, procedures and guidelines
Recognition and management
Stigma and Fear
Safeguarding and Risk
A local perspective
