BMWKD25 & KCCAGBH XMAS Party

Next Wednesday 19th November from 5pm at Gardiners Inn Blackheath is a celebration of the success of this year’s BMWKD two events and the end of year celebration of the achievements of the Kangaroo Care Community Group. Food – vegan platters - and first drink will be provided free of charge.

In October, an injured male kangaroo (called Henry) was found in the Rhodo Gardens. The Rhodo Garden volunteers called Wires then me. The Wires person, Kevin, told us that Henry’s tail was injured – it is believed to have been caused by vehicle strike on the tail that got infected. Henry was 30kg and quite young. Kevin said a darter was needed to sedate him for the journey to the wildlife vets. Kevin organised for a darter to come the next day. Due to some members of the public/RG not knowing what to do around wild or injured animals, Henry was frightened off. It took another two days of constant vigilance of Henry from a distance and stopping people in vehicles or on foot going close to him; for Kevin and the darter to be able to sedate Henry and assess his injuries. Unfortunately the tail was necrotic and Henry had to be euthanised.
