- **Event Description**: Create your own mosaic portrait inspired by Cubist Art at the National Festival of Making.About this EventQemamu Mosaics returns to the Festival, providing a chance to explore abstract art through mosaic techniques.Step into a colourful world of expression, identity, and creativity as you create your own mosaic portrait inspired by the bold, abstract style of Picasso’s Cubism. You will explore how different “pieces” can come together to tell a unique story.This playful and fun workshop invites you to experiment with mosaic techniques while celebrating individuality, connection, and self-expression. Expect vibrant tiles, creative freedom, and a gallery of beautifully unexpected faces by the end of the session.Suitable for ages 6+. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.This workshop is £10 per personThere are 8 places available each session.The workshops will last approx 1 hour 30The workshop is taking place on the lower-ground floor of The Exchange (Blackburn’s historic Cotton Exchange) - access is via the main entrance on King William Street. The venue is accessible to people who use a wheelchair, with a new lift operating to all floors of the building.Please arrive at the venue 5 minutes before the workshop. Unfortunately your place may be allocated to a participant on the waiting list in the event of late arrival.Advanced booking required.Pricing GuidanceThe National Festival of Making is delivered through a combination of public funding, partnerships, sponsorship and ticket income. This session has been partly subsidised by the National Festival of Making to provide a low-cost opportunity for people to try this technique at the festival weekend. You can speak to Dionne of Qemamu Ceramics about booking onto other courses she offers at full rates through her studio and practice.To see what else is going on over the festival weekend, click here.About Qemamu MosaicsDionne Ible is a Bedfordshire based mosaic artist and the founder of Qemamu Mosaics.Her passion for African art and mosaics led her to create unique and captivating pieces that resonate with her cultural heritage. She began her journey in 2002 as a complete novice looking for a hobby. After creating her first piece, she instantly got hooked on the art-form and started to build up her reputation by selling her pieces, working with schools, receiving commissions and being invited to attend festivals and events. Dionne’s goal is to continue to push the boundaries of how mosaic is seen and to encourage and inspire those coming after her.Dionne’s work has gained recognition and exposure through several media appearances:She was featured on BBC One’s “Make It At Market”, appeared on BBC Two’s “David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed” and also appeared on Channel 4’s Changing Rooms and ITV’s 60 Minute Makeover.
