About the event

Monarch Peak Migration Viewing
Fall 2025 is the 10th anniversary of the Monarch Waystations of Black Mountain. Lets celebrate by watching the migration together and participating in Citizen Science to Tag monarchs here at the Waystation (99 White Pine Drive).

We have had an unprecedented number of monarch caterpillars at the South Veterans Park Monarch Waystation this fall. Based on the timeline it takes for eggs laid to hatch into adult butterflies, we can expect to have a large number of new monarchs hatching here in mid October. On Friday Oct 10th from 9 am to 11am we will tag monarchs here. If peak monarch migration is still happening in our area, you are also welcome to join me in visiting other sites after the tagging to catch a glimpse of the migration.

I will not have the Parks and Rec van this day, but you are welcome to ride in my vehicle (space limited) or caravan to other known locations in the vicinity where they are known to gather, primarily sites on the Blue Ride Parkway (at least to MP 415 at Cherry Cover Overlook), though we may also stop at other waystation sites in Black Mountain/Swannanoa if we have tips that Monarchs are roosting there. I will also be following Journey North ( https://maps.journeynorth.org/maps) to know when and where to expect them.

We will plan to begin at 9am, but butterfly activity is weather dependent, so check here or text me for weather delays/changes as we could delay start if it's frosty. If traveling up parkway we would plan to be back to Asheville/Black Mountain area by around 3 pm. Remember to bring a water bottle and Pack a snack/lunch (or you can pick something up at the Mt. Pisgah store).

My phone number is 828-545-6826 if you need it day of event for info. Please RSVP if you want to make sure to have a seat in my vehicle.
