Gilpin County Pile Burn Workshop

Join The Ember Alliance and Timberline Fire for a pile burn workshop!

About: This workshop is a hands-on, educational event for Colorado landowners who are interested in using pile burning as a way to reduce hazardous fuel and mitigate wildfire risk to their homes and community. This workshop aims to provide landowners with the knowledge to safely burn slash piles on their own property. This will be an excellent networking opportunity to meet fellow landowners in your community that are interested in pile burning. Registration will be capped at 25 participants, so reserve your spot now! Please bring your own lunch as this will be an all-day event.

Date: Prescribed fire implementation is dependent on weather conditions! We plan to host the workshop on Friday, March 13, 2026. However, we ask workshop participants to be FLEXIBLE, as the date may change depending on weather. Backup dates for the workshop are March 14, 15, 20, 21, or 22. We will notify participants as soon as possible if the date changes.

Bring: water, lunch, sunscreen, personal protective equipment (leather gloves, leather boots with non-slip soles, sunglasses or eye protection, hard hat if you have one), non-synthetic clothing such as cotton or wool (long sleeve shirt & pants), and mask if you are sensitive to smoke. The Ember Alliance can provide hard hats and leather gloves for those who don't have their own.

9:15 – Drip torch demo

9:30 – Go/No-Go Checklist & test pile

10:00 – Light remaining piles

11:00 – Group Discussion

11:30 – Chunk in piles & check weather

12:00 – Lunch

12:30 – Continue monitoring & chunking in piles

1:00 – Begin mop-up, piles out by 2:30

2:30 – After Action Review

3:00 – Workshop Conclusion
