# Event Details

- **Event Name**: Independence Day 5k & Kids Dash
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 27 Jun, 2026 at 10:00 am
- **Event Description**: This free annual event invites runners, walkers, and families of all ages to come together for a morning of fitness, celebration, and community giving.

This year’s event proudly features a new “Fill the Boat” donation drive, encouraging participants to bring non-perishable food, diapers, and school supplies to support the Food Bank at the Black Diamond Community Center. Cash and Venmo donations are also welcome on race day.

The day begins with the popular Kid’s Dash, held in full view from the park’s entrance.
Children will be grouped by age categories—3–4 and 5–6 (200-yard dashes), and 7–9 and 10–11 (½-mile runs)—with parents welcome to run alongside their children.

Following the youth races, the 5K Fun Run & Walk will begin, with runners starting first, followed by walkers.

Participants will enjoy a scenic 3 mile course that winds through Lake Sawyer Regional Park, featuring a mix of gravel paths and picturesque narrow trails. While the event is not officially timed, friendly competition is encouraged. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in both running and walking divisions across youth and adult categories.

In addition to the race, attendees can look forward to a festive post-race atmosphere, complete with a hydration station, bake sale, and lemonade stand.

“This event is all about bringing our community together,” organizers shared. “Whether you’re running, walking, cheering, or donating, it’s a great way to celebrate the holiday and support local families in need.”

The event is open to everyone, regardless of age or ability. Participants are encouraged sign up online or to arrive early to complete a liability waiver (required for all participants, with parent or guardian signatures for minors). Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult during the 5K, and leashed pets are welcome.

Parking will be available at Lake Sawyer Regional Park, located just a short walk from the entrance. Parking is limited, carpooling encouraged. There is no parking on SE 312th ST.

The Lake Sawyer Independence Day 5K & Kids Dash is proudly sponsored by the neighborhood McDonald’s and Alan & Cassie Finkelstein.

For more information, community members are encouraged to share the event and invite friends and neighbors to join in this celebration of health, community, and giving.
