- **Event Description**: This summer, join LCWM and Querkus Creative as we shine a spotlight on some of our favorite nighttime pollinators: moths! 

We'll be taking a moth appreciation party on the road this summer with three events, one each in Kent, Muskegon, and Newaygo County. The stars of each night's show will vary depending on the time of season, geographic location, and habitat type. For our July event, we'll be partnering with Newaygo County Environmental Coalition to bring their local moths centerstage. 

Using a practice called lightsheeting (or moth sheeting), which is a method used by entomologists and nature enthusiasts alike, we will observe and identify moths at night. This method involves hanging a white sheet and illuminating it with a bright light, which attracts moths and other night-flying bugs. This non-invasive technique is a great way to learn as a citizen scientist, and adds to our scientific knowledge of our local biodiversity. We would recommend downloading iNaturalist prior to the event. 

This event will happen outside and after dark - please come dressed for the weather and activity. We recommend bringing a headlamp or flashlight, and to wear long pants and socks to protect yourself from ticks. In case of severe or dangerous weather, the event may be postponed or cancelled - if this is the case, registrants will be notified of any changes via email and social media. 

There is a small, gravel parking lot off Walnut Ave. Parking is free, and we will gather in the lot at 9:00pm (just before sunset) before hiking into the preserve together.
