The Alte Pleiner Mühle (Old Plein Mill) is a historic watermill located along the Lieser River in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Its history spans over 500 years, transitioning from a functional industrial site to a popular leisure destination.
The mill was first mentioned in historical documents at the beginning of the 16th century.
Of the original structure, the primary mill building and a wing formerly used as a farm building are still preserved.
The mill has withstood significant environmental events, most notably a dramatic flood in 1804 that severely impacted the building.
It.was affected by the severe Eifel floods in 2021, which destroyed the local access bridge; a new suspension bridge was subsequently built to reconnect the mill to hiking trails.
As of early 2026, the establishment has a new operator, Andre Hommen, who took over the lease in February 2026 to continue the mill's long-standing tradition of hospitality. The new website will launch soon.
Today, the site is a key landmark on the Lieserpfad hiking trail, serving as a rustic beer garden and restaurant for outdoor enthusiasts and foodies.
