Join us on 17th October, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, for Picnic in the 1800s – a unique afternoon tea experience set against the prehistoric landscape of Borġ in-Nadur.

This won’t just be a picnic. Behind the imposing Bronze Age wall, HRGM re-enactors dressed in Regency-period attire will bring the 19th century to life through games, dances, and entertainment.

Keep an eye out for our rather peculiar excavator, portrayed by actor and guide Jeremy Grech. Following the instructions of scholar A. A. Caruana, he has been sent to investigate the ancient remains in the belief that they may form part of the Phoenician Temple of Hercules (Melqart), mentioned by the 2nd-century geographer Ptolemy, around AD 150, and later associated with the area by the 16th-century writer Jean Quintin, known as Quintinus.

Along the way, our excavator will guide you through the curiosities of the Neolithic complex and Bronze Age settlement, sharing the stories, discoveries, and interpretations that have shaped our understanding of Borġ in-Nadur.

Participants are to be on site by 12.45 pm and are encouraged to bring their own picnic blanket, although a limited number of blankets will also be available.

An afternoon tea in collaboration with Taste History will be served, including:

Assorted sandwiches
Scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam
Sponge cake
Biscuits
Cheese and crackers
Drinks:

A glass of Prosecco served on arrival
Tea/Water/Juice
