Safeguarding, Prevent and Online Safety in Education

Experts in the field have designed this unique advanced workshop in line with the government’s Prevent Strategy. The workshop will help equip you and your organisation to manage issues relating to safeguarding, extremism and radicalisation, and comply with the Prevent Duty.
The workshop will cover a variety of key topics including some of those listed below:
• Safeguarding, updates, lessons learned. • Online Safety with Safety Net, the key issues. • Your responsibilities under Prevent Duty • What you and your organisation MUST do • Discussing an extremist’s journey • Teaching and Learning Academy input to embed strategies via continuing professional development.
We have designed this workshop to share learning and facilitate the effective implementation of Safeguarding strategies in accordance with the Prevent duty. There will be opportunities to discuss issues with the presenters.
Event Speakers:

Jangeer Kayani is a retired Detective Inspector, who managed a dedicated team of officers working on Prevent and Channel within the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit. Nick Daines provides mentoring, intervention, consultation and assessment to HM Government Prevent project, which aims to reduce the risk of radicalisation and violent extremism. He has been involved with the Prevent project since 2009, developing specialist knowledge around behavioural issues and vulnerability to extreme ideological causes. His role includes managing an intervention case load for commissioning authorities across the UK.

Deborah Somerset-Malia is a professionally qualified Adult Learning Tutor, Mentor and Nursery Nurse. She has been involved in criminal justice, education, training, safeguarding practice and consultancy for over 30 years. Deborah has worked in a Children`s Secure Unit, a Youth Offending Team, as a Local Authority Anti-Bullying Support Officer, Learning Mentor, Residential Social Worker and safeguarding children training coordinator.

Charlie Spencer was a senior manager in Children’s Services for over 10 years. He has been the head of service holding strategic responsibility for a range of service areas, including Prevent, Youth Offending and youth services.
