About this Event

Join us throughout 2026 for our AARR Lunch & Learn Events!

AARR Lunch & Learn gatherings provide an opportunity to network with recovery organization professionals over lunch, followed by an informative training.

Our guest presenter is Charmon Wilson with her presentation entitled "Effectively Addressing Co-Morbidity In Sober Living Environments."

Co-morbidity refers to the presence of both a substance use disorder and one or more co-occurring mental health disorders within the same individual. This means a resident may be managing recovery from alcohol or drug use while also experiencing conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, or other psychiatric diagnoses.

In sober living settings, co-morbidity is especially significant because these mental health conditions can interact with substance use, often influencing relapse risk, emotional regulation, peer relationships, and a resident’s ability to fully engage in recovery supports. Effective sober living environments recognize comorbidity as common rather than exceptional and emphasizes integrated support, including structure, peer accountability, and coordination with mental health and clinical services.

This training will help attendees:

1) Define comorbidity and explain its prevalence in sober living environments,

including common co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, to build a

shared foundational understanding among participants.

2) Analyze how co-occurring disorders impact recovery outcomes in sober living settings, such as relapse risk, peer dynamics, treatment engagement, and length of stay.

3) Identify evidence-based strategies and best practices for supporting residents

with comorbid conditions, including integrated care approaches, staff communication

techniques, and appropriate referral and collaboration with mental health professionals.
