BIM IN BIRMINGHAM 2019
BIM In Birmingham is an internationally and nationally recognized event for students that has been hosted by Birmingham City University in January 2017 and January 2018. The event focuses on the importance of BIM (Building Information Modelling) and how it can aid the design process in the built environment. The event brings together architects, architectural students from BCU as well as other schools of architecture around the country for networking, learning and gaining an insight into contemporary practices in BIM. Keynotes have been from globally well known practices and specialists in the field and short talks are delivered from guest speakers who present on behalf of notable local, national and international practices and institutions. Discussions and presentations to date have circled around the future if BIM, case studies, current practice and BIM and its impact on the built environment and the future of the profession.
The BIM event has grown from a series of collaborations with numerous partners. The association of architectural educators (aae) initially championed the idea of BIM camps, which would move across interested schools of architecture in order to place the opportunity for students to engage. Space challenges however, prevented some schools from embracing this initiative.
In January 2017, BSOAD offered itself as a host for a centralised educational event that would open its doors to students and academics and provide an inclusive event, welcoming architects and BIM managers from across the country together with students from Coventry University and Wolverhampton. In January 2018, the event expanded further to permit students from Coventry, Wolverhampton, The Bartlett, Oxford Brooke’s, Strathclyde and Liverpool schools of Architecture.
The BIM in Birmingham event aims to provide an opportunity for both practitioners and students to network, engage with specialists and to offer both parties the chance to learn and advance their skills and knowledge in BIM .
Over the last few years the event has quadrupled and we are excited to be able to provide this central resource to schools of architecture and practising architects to maximise the value of peer learning, learning from specialists and growing their networks for future collaborations.
The January 2019 event will seek to build upon previous events with a new selection of presentations, guest speakers and activities. With our motto of “what’s next?” We continue to hone and evaluate what we do in order to give the best experience possible to our visitors. We hope you enjoy it!
