It traditionally involves suspensions using bamboo and restrictive harnesses.Our workshop will incorporate the methods of suspensions-based semenawa, but without mandating that the model be in a TK/boxtie (which some models find unsustainable).The workshop will be taught by Christian Red and AstroUnicorn.Our weekend intensive will cover the following topics:Making an appropriate harnessSemenawa requires a strong upper body harness that is stable and supportive. We will show how arm’s forward harnesses can be constructed with the strength and anatomical understanding to accommodate suspension.Using bambooWe will touch on why bamboo works so well as a hardpoint, the advantages it opens up and how to lock off suspension lines on it safely.Understanding torsionsA torsion is a suspension that creates a twist on the body. We’ll explore how to add and reduce intensity to our torsions as appropriate.Downwards pressureUsing the half-inverted staircase tie, we will apply and relieve downwards pressure.Upright to invertedWe will explore how we can create pressure which begins from a standing before going into an inversion.Reverse ebiCompacting the body before adding pressure using uplines.Is this workshop a good fit for you?Semenawa can feel intense for the bottom and require the top to engage with the technical and emotional elements of shibari.We recommend doing this workshop with someone who you’re very comfortable communicating and problem solving with.Be aware of the risks of suspension, and know how to check for the signs of nerve impingement.Tops should:Be comfortable tying a suspension harness (such as a arms forward harness, butterfly harness or TK).
