Tidewings Art Workshops at Henry Miller Library

Join us for three seasonal workshops in Big Sur, each one an invitation to create symbolic objects that carry us through the darker months. These gatherings weave hands-on artmaking with seasonal reflection and community connection.

Workshops may be attended individually or as a full three-part series. Space is limited to 15 participants per session.

Nov 30 — Reservoirs of Light

Lantern-Making Workshop

1–4 p.m.

As autumn leans toward darkness, this creative retreat invites us into the practice of harnessing light. With foraged natural materials and translucent coverings, we will shape sculptural vessels of light, abstract forms that are at once personal and universal.

The process is both material and symbolic: binding branches, grapevine, and driftwood, stretching paper and twine, and watching light seep through texture. Each lantern becomes a meditation on carrying our inner flame into the darker months, a reminder of resilience, imagination, and warmth, both individually and collectively.

Dec 7 — Winter Cartography

Textile Mapping Workshop

1–4 p.m.

Through simple embroidery and collage, we’ll create symbolic “maps” of the season. Working with textiles, thread, and layered imagery, participants will chart inner landscapes and seasonal pathways.

Each piece becomes a tactile map of belonging, transition, and story, an artifact of winter’s unfolding journey and a personal compass for the months ahead.

Dec 14 — Solstice Vessels

Beeswax Luminary Workshop

1–4 p.m.

On the threshold of the longest night of the year, we will craft translucent light bowls from beeswax. These glowing vessels honor solstice traditions of warmth and gathering, offering a practice of shaping beauty from raw material.

Each luminary becomes both an art object and a gentle reminder of renewal to come, a vessel of light carried into the longest night.
