The U.S. Forest Service has been growing native plants in its nursery, and now it’s time to get them into the ground at Big Pine Flats (3N14), just north/ west of Holcomb Valley — and we need your help!
We are meeting at the Big Bear Discovery Center at 9 am and caravanning to Big Pine Flats. The event should end between 12 and 1pm.
Join BVPS and the USFS Biologist in the field for a firsthand look at how we restore a disturbed site caused by human activity and return it to a healthy, natural habitat. Just a few hours of your time can make a tremendous impact on our forest.
We’ll be planting Jeffrey pines, Penstemon, and native grasses to protect biodiversity and show how community-based stewardship can heal the land and inspire others.
Event Highlights:
• Work side-by-side with the USFS Biologist
• Learn how restoration projects are planned and implemented
• Help re-establish native plants and improve wildlife habitat
Logistics:
• Weather: Forecast is around 60°F with no rain — perfect planting weather.
