Uncover the wonders that await in the darkness, by joining us for an extraordinary adventure as we explore the fascinating world of biofluorescence in our local natural environment.
Following his sell out event for Resurgence last year, we welcome back expert David Atthowe as he brings his great knowledge and enthusiasm to the woods of Hartland.
Biofluorescence occurs when certain organisms emit light in colours that are different from the ones they absorb. We will embark on a guided walk to discover this captivating phenomenon up close. All equipment will be provided and we will venture into the darkness to witness a stunning display of biofluorescent organisms in their natural habitat. From fungi to insects and plants, we will encounter a diverse array of species that come alive with vibrant hues of green, blue, red, purple, orange and more, revealing one of Nature’s hidden spectacles.
Facilitator David is a Forest Therapy practitioner and he is on a mission to share some of the unseen wonders of the natural world. He has spent hundreds of hours in different habitats at night in numerous countries, exploring the hidden world of biofluorescence, and is currently writing a book about it. You can find out more about his work here and see some of his amazing images.
This guided walk is suitable for anyone aged 8 years and above, and no prior experience is necessary. Unfortunately it's not suitable for dogs for their own wellbeing with the equipment used. All children must be accompanied by an adult, and each will need to be a ticket holder. Please come prepared with warm clothing, as the pace of the walk is slow. Because the terrain is uneven, we recommend sturdy footwear – walking boots are ideal, but trainers would be adequate – and wearing trousers to avoid stinging nettles. Safety glasses will be provided and must be worn throughout the walk for your protection.
This event will be an unforgettable experience that will open your eyes to the breathtaking beauty of Nature’s hidden secrets. Book your spot now and get ready for an awe-inspiring adventure!
Please note that we will not cancel the event due to rain, but only if there are dangerously high winds, so please come prepared accordingly. Rainfall and water greatly enhance the experience, creating ideal conditions for a biofluorescent night walk.
Please meet at the Torridge District Council car park in the Square, Hartland EX39 6BL, 10 minutes before the event starts.
The walk itself is on a hill, but don't worry; we will be stopping many times as we get captivated by the breathtaking beauty of it’s hidden secrets. Maximum distance 1.5 miles.
Walk 1 - 19:00 - 20:30
Walk 2 - 21:00 - 22:30
Please choose which walk you want to go on when booking your ticket.
Tickets £25
