- **Event Description**: This unique event on August 6, 2026 from 9am to 4pm will exhibit original art works by President George W. Bush.About this EventPresident Bush began painting in 2012, after serving two terms as the 43rd President of the United States. Initially inspired by Winston Churchill’s essay Painting as a Pastime, he has devoted himself to a disciplined artistic practice. For him, painting offers the opportunity to think critically, reflect, learn, and foster connection.President Bush’s works are personal, introspective, at times humorous, and often layered with spiritual resonance and thoughtful inquiry; they consistently reflect the values most important to him: faith, family, freedom, and community. This art exhibition provides a glimpse into his studio practice and the creative life he has built beyond public service. Please join us on Thursday, August 6, 2026 between 9am and 4pm for this special one-day exhibition of President Bush’s recent works of art from his Maine studio. This event will support the preservation of a local Maine national registered historic site, St. Ann’s Kennebunkport. Long cherished by the community and the Bush and Walker families, St. Ann’s is known for its beautiful sea-washed stone chapel and stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. Open to the public each summer, St. Ann’s is visited by generations of Maine families and thousands of tourists from around the world.Proceeds from the exhibition will support the St. Ann’s “Preserving a Legacy” Capital Campaign and help to repair and protect the historic buildings and grounds against future weather events and preserve this important legacy for future generations.Thank you to the many sponsors from business, philanthropy, and the community for making this art exhibition possible, and to the University of New England for generously donating their venue.Attendees must purchase a ticket to attend the art exhibition on Thursday, August 6, 2026. "description": "St. Ann’s Church Kennebunkport is an active, Episcopal congregation and we welcome people from all faith traditions to participate in Sunday services, celebrations and events. Listed on the National Historic Register, our spectacular oceanfront buildings and grounds are open to visitors daily from June to September. Events take place in our picturesque Stone Chapel that has been in continuous use as a summer chapel since 1892.The current site was donated by the Kennebunkport Seashore Company and included the rights to gather and use the large sea-washed stones at hand for construction of our Stone Chapel. The roof over the central part of the church is framed with hard pine hammer beam trusses and the floor is cleft slate. Our outside Seaside Chapel occupies an awe-inspiring setting that overlooks the Gulf of Maine on the Atlantic Ocean. The rectory on site was built in 1891 as a private home for the Nesmith family of Lowell, MA and was purchased in 1910 by Arthur Atwater Kent, the noted inventor. In 1970 a loan from the G.H. Walker Foundation made it possible for the church to purchase both the home and the property.Visitors are asked to wear shirts and shoes and refrain from smoking. You are welcome to picnic and we ask that you help maintain the property by taking all refuse with you. We welcome your well-behaved and leashed pets. Please be sure to take with you any “deposits” your pet might make on the grounds. During open hours, visitors are welcome to take photos for personal use inside the Stone Chapel and on the grounds, unless otherwise noted. Flash photography is permitted. No photography is allowed during services inside the Stone Chapel or at the Seaside Chapel. Drones are not allowed on the property."
