For this year’s festival a trip to Rousham House & Gardens has been arranged. The house is not usually open, so a private visit has been arranged. The garden was designed by William Kent in 1738 and was described by Alexander Pope as ‘the prettiest place for water falls, jetties, ponds, enclosed with beautiful scenes of green and hanging wood, that I ever saw’. There are also walled gardens next to the house which predate Kent and are very attractive with a rose garden, a vegetable garden, a dove cote and a parterre.
 
Rousham House was built circa 1635 for Sir Robert Dormer on an H plan but in 1738 Kent remodelled the house into an Early Tudor style with new wings added. We will have a guided tour of the house with one of the house’s special guides. The house is still owned by the original family. (https://rousham.org/) 
 
The cost of the outing by coach is £40 for a house and garden visit. For those who do not want to visit the house it is £20 & they should pay for their garden entry by card on the machine in the garden. For those who wish to travel by car, they should also pay for their garden entry by card but they are not able to visit the house. This is to help those without a car or unable to drive to gain access to the house and garden. Rousham does not have any catering facilities so a picnic should be brought with you. 
 
The cost should be paid by cheque or bank transfer in advance of the trip.
