It was a work composed in 1840 to mark the 400th anniversary of Gutenberg’s movable type printing system - the innovation which brought the Bible to the masses around Europe and beyond. Three symphonic movements are followed by a sung finale where the chorus and soloists lift their voices in an outpouring of praise, grief, and ultimately redemption and thanks.
