Focus: Surface design, aging, and texture

Materials: Coffee, alcohol inks, Mod Podge, distress ink, scrap paper, stencils, wax paper, brushes, spray bottles, found materials
Learning Goals:
Learn several paper-aging and surface design methods
Experiment with coffee, alcohol stain, Mod Podge textures, and heat techniques
Use 3D-printed stencils for pattern and texture
Dry and flatten papers for later use
Takeaway:
Students leave with a stack of handmade papers ready to become pages and covers. Join us for another class where we will use our papers to create pockets, pages, tags and cards for our junk journals.

Nov. 15 - Bookbinding Basics – Turning Your Pages into a Journal

Focus: Book structure & stitching methods

Choose and cut your cover (using recycled boxes or chipboard)
Learn a simple pamphlet stitch or coptic stitch binding
Create a spine and assemble signatures
Use laser-cut guides for hole placement and stitching
Takeaway:
Students leave with a fully bound blank junk journal ready for personal touches.

Nov. 22 - Journal Magic – Decorating & Adding Interactive Elements

Focus: Creative customization
Duration: ~2 hours
Learning Goals:
Create pockets, flaps, tuck spots, and envelopes from recycled materials
Use embellishments, ribbons, tags, and textures
Experiment with stamps, stencils, and layering techniques
Add personal touches and themes
