⛰ Two Days of Mountain Skills, Navigation and Map Reading Training in the Lake District ⛰
After completing this course you will be able to discover new areas, new mountains and new routes, deep within the UK National Parks, off the beaten track, with confidence and proficiency.
Key concepts you will learn on the Hill & Mountain skills course:
✅ Choosing a route: how to plan a walk in the mountains
✅ Navigation skills: map reading, using a compass and staying on track
✅ Basic scrambling: an introduction to scrambling and steep ground
✅ Responding to hazards: what to do in an emergency
✅ Walking skills: pace, movement in the mountains and clothing/equipment
✅ Weather: understanding a mountain forecast and how it can influence your day
✅ Modern navigation: GPS/phones and the pros/cons of using them
A full two-day course aimed at building and developing hillwalking skills in the Lake District.
After this course you will leave with a wealth of practical knowledge giving you the confidence and experience to tackle UK mountains in summer conditions.
You will spend the first day covering all the essential skills needed to become a skilled and proficient hillwalker. On the second day you will put your new skills to the test as you complete a mountain journey in the mountains. At times you will leave the main trails to explore the local mountains and develop the skills needed to be more adventurous with your future route selection.
