Join PBS39 for a powerful screening of Light in the Darkness, a documentary about a town that unites after a devastating hate crime.
After the film, take part in an interactive workshop designed for high school students, where we’ll dive into real conversations about bullying, bias, and what it takes to stand up against hate in our own schools and communities. The workshop will be led by FACES International.
This is your chance to speak up, listen, and explore how you can make a difference.
This program is in partnership with the City of Bethlehem and the Bethlehem Area School District.
Light in the Darkness follows a town coming together to take action after anti-immigrant violence devastates the community. In 2008, a series of attacks against Latino residents of Patchogue, New York culminate with the M**der of Marcelo Lucero, an Ecuadorian immigrant who had lived in the Long Island village for 13 years. Over a two-year period, the story follows Patchogue residents as they openly address the underlying causes of the violence, work to heal divisions, and begin taking steps to ensure everyone in their village will be safe and respected. (Not In Our Town: Light in the Darkness was broadcast on PBS stations nationwide.)
