25 Year Celebration of CRoW: Ogwen, North Wales

This social walk celebrates 25 years of the Countryside and Rights of Way (CRoW) Act, which opened up access to land like never before. We’ll explore iconic landscapes in Eryri National Park, starting at Ogwen Cottage and passing through Cwm Idwal, known for its rich natural history, world renowned arctic plants and access rights provided under CRoW. The route will take us through the Devil’s Kitchen passing the renowned Castell Y Gwynt and the Cantilever Stone before descending back to Llyn Bochlwyd. This walk is a chance to reflect on the freedoms provided by the CRoW Act while enjoying the stunning scenery and shared experience of the outdoors.

Walk Grading: Moderate to Challenging

Distance: Approx. 10 km (6.2 miles)

Ascent: 760 m (2,500 ft)

Duration: Approximately 5 hours

What to Bring

We’ll cover a range of terrains, so please ensure you are well-prepared with appropriate gear

Footwear: Sturdy, water-resistant hiking boots or shoes with good grip

Clothing: Dress in layers, including a warm layer and waterproofs, as conditions can vary; bring a hat and gloves for cooler areas

Food and Drink: Bring enough food and water for a full day’s walk; there will be no places to purchase refreshments en route

Other Essentials: Although we plan to finish within daylight hours, carrying a small torch or head torch is advisable for emergencies

Who Can Attend

Anyone, Under 18's must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be always kept under close control, please indicate on your booking if you will be bringing a dog

Health Precautions: If you have any health conditions that might impact your participation, please inform us in advance. Carry any required medications, and let the walk leader know if assistance may be needed in accessing them

Covid-19: Please do not attend if you feel unwell or have Covid-19 symptoms
