At 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, volunteers will lay wreaths at Milton Valley Cemetery and read the names of the veterans who have been laid to rest there. The cemetery is located at 311 Josephine St. in Berryville; additional parking is available at the Josephine School Community Museum.

This brief ceremony has been organized by a small group that has been restoring and maintaining small local cemeteries. Contact cemeterycaretakers@outlook.com.

The event is generously sponsored by the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation.

Wreaths Across America is a non-profit organization founded in 2007 to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine wreath maker Morrill Worcester in 1992. The organization’s mission – remember the fallen, honor those who serve, teach the next generation the value of freedom – is carried out each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at thousands of participating locations in all 50 states and beyond.
