Water From Your Eyes sind Rachel Brown und Nate Amos. Ihr neues Album heißt "It's A Beautiful Life" (VÖ am 22.08.25 bei Matador / Beggars) und ist ein schimmerndes Megalopolis, ein Blick aus dem All auf Epochen und Stile, eine Interpretation des y2k Songbooks in der großen Leere. "Am Ende geht's um die Zeit, um Dinosaurer und das Weltall", so Nate Amos. "Und wir wollten dabei all diese Stile einbauen, in einer Weise, die verdeutlicht, dass alles nur ein kurzes Aufflackern ist".

Seit ihrem Matador-Debüt "Everyone's Crushed", das 2023 auf den Jahresbestenlisten von u. a. The New York Times, The Guardian, Rolling Stone, NME und Pitchfork landete, haben sich die beiden zu einem Pfeiler der alternativen Musikszene New Yorks entwickelt. Live werden sie durch Gitarrist Al Nardo und Drummer Bailey Wollowitz ergänzt. Gespielt haben sie so u. a. mit Interpol vor 160.000 Fans in Mexico City. 

Ein Großteil des neuen Albums "It's a Beautiful Place" entstand wieder bei Amos zuhause unter den wachsamen Augen eines zerknitterten Posters von Robin Williams aus der "Mork vom Ork"-Ära. "Robin ist fast so etwas wie ein stilles Bandmitglied", scherzt er. Diesmal allerdings stand das Songwriting unter einem neuen Stern: "Es entstand mit dem Gedanken an die Dynamik einer kompletten Liveband. Wenn du mit Band spielst, dann schreibst du auch entsprechend. Es war das erste Mal, dass ich etwas für WFYE schrieb und dabei an etwas größeres dachte, als in einem Keller zu spielen".

It's a Beautiful Place ist bedrohlich und melancholisch, es hat die Augen weit aufgerissen und ist dann wieder wie in Schockstarre. Es ist Blade Runner mit einem Hauch von WALL-E, Kubrick und Asimov mit ein wenig Jay and Silent Bob. Es sind Songs, die den Blick nach außen richten, sich unserer Kleinheit bewusst sind und unseren Platz im Universum hinterfragen, während sie zugleich die unendliche Schönheit der Umgebung bewundern.
