- **Event Name**: The Long Shadow of War: Learning from History for Russia's War against Ukraine

- **Event Description**: Wars are not over when the last bullet is fired. As World War II and the wars in the former Yugoslavia have shown, they are often followed by extended periods of uncertainty or renewed conflict, negotiations, and reconstruction and recovery. The legacies of war have profound effects on individuals, society at large, institutions, the political system and international relations.  

By drawing on different wars and post-war developments from a comparative perspective, we hope to gain a better understanding of what Russia’s war against Ukraine may bring for Ukraine, for Europe and for global politics. At this joint event by ZOiS and  Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW), we discuss with political scientists and historians:

Josip Glaurdić (University of Luxembourg)
Anne Deighton (University of Oxford) 
Moderator: Gwendolyn Sasse (ZOiS). 

This event marks the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. 
It also represents the opening of the conference 'Researching Conflict and Cooperation in Eastern Europe: Lessons from KonKoop' organised by the KonKoop research network on 25 February.  
KonKoop is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.
