Queers + Friends of a Certain (R)Age: a Menopause Exchange + Support Group

With this group, we want to create a space of exchange and learning about peri- and post-menopause for queers and friends of a certain (r)age, beyond dominant cultural and medical narratives. We will do so not from a specialist perspective, but on a peer--to-peer basis, as two meno-nerds holding space for exchange, ideas, and community building.

A recent tide change has brought a new awareness of the meno experience, and with it the so-called menopause goldrush. Despite this, menopause is still generally understood as a kind of deficit: of hormones, health, sexiness, youth, (re)productive capacity, of worth in society. Many of us going through this transition also experience it as such: lack of information, (intergenerational) knowledge transfer, positive representations, resources, access to Medic*tion, etc. At the same time, it can be a phase of transformation, intense learning, self-determination and sometimes, gender affirmation. We want to explore all of these topics and more with you, so bring curiosity, questions and knowledge to share, if you have some!

Who is welcome?

This is a group for everyone. We will bring and center queer and trans experiences, but we want everyone to join in the conversation. We believe we can all learn from each other despite our different experiences, and that everyone can benefit from a queerfeminist perspective on health, aging and sexuality.

Which languages will be spoken?

DE/EN or both depending on who shows up and their needs. All genders and ages welcome.

About us:

This space will be held by Mai and Ann, people consistently interested and engaged in collective processes, anti-capitalist, hierarchy-critical community work and getting stuff done. Mai has worked at Other Nature, the feminist sexshop, for around 7 years, is 40ish and has been nerding out about peri-meno for around a year. Ann, 50ish, has been holding space in many contexts for 15+ years, and has been nerding peri- and menopause, and its individual and community effects for some years now.
