About the event

PANDAwomen #4: Yemen
Yemeni Evening

About this Event

Curated by artist and activist Najla Alshami, this evening opens a space for contemporary Yemeni music shaped by displacement, memory, and innovation. Through voice, text, and rhythm, the program weaves together traditional references and future-facing forms — from poetic ballads to electronic experiments.

Programme

Eman Ibrahim (Opening Set)A vocalist drawing from the richness of classical Arabic poetry, Eman opens the night with a warm, intimate set of songs blending lyrical tradition with contemporary arrangements. Her performance gently welcomes the audience into the world of Yemeni expression — with surtitles and short English introductions for wider accessibility.

Hadeel Hussein (Live Pop Set)Based in Saudi Arabia, Hadeel brings a high-energy, emotionally rich set of original pop songs influenced by Yemeni melodic structures. Her voice is both clear and inviting — shaped by diaspora experience and rooted in the cadence of Arabic song.

Intibint (Electronic Performance)The final music set comes from Noha, also known as Intibint — a Glasgow-based singer-songwriter and producer. Her music merges field recordings, layered vocals, and electronic textures to explore memory, migration, and feminine agency. She draws on revolutionary songs from Yemen and beyond.

Short Film & Yemen Art Base TalkThe live sets are followed by the screening of a short Yemeni film and a brief talk by Najla Alshami about the Yemen Art Base project — connecting local and diasporic Yemeni artists across disciplines.
