Der Soundtrack stammt von der Berliner »Kosmischen« Band Ash Ra Tempel mit Manuel Göttsching (Gitarre, Farfisa-Orgel, Rhythmus-Computer) und Lutz Graf-Ulbrich aka Lüül (Gitarre, Synth-Gitarre).

Nach dem Film zeigen wir einen exklusiven Video-Ausschnitt aus Manuel Göttschings und Lüüls Live-Aaufführung der Filmmusik 2015 beim E-Live Festival in Oirschot/Niederlande.

Anschließend gibt es ein Q&A mit Lutz Graf-Ulbrich und Markus Schickel, Editor/Media-Designer/Sound-Engineer und langjährigem technischem Mitarbeiter von Manuel Göttsching, über die Entstehung der Filmmusik sowie die musikgeschichtliche Einordnung.

»Le berceau de cristal« ist einer von sieben unabhängig produzierten, experimentellen Filmen, die der französische Regisseur mit der Sängerin, Musikerin, Schauspielerin und Dichterin Nico, seiner damaligen Lebensgefährtin, realisiert hat. Der traumwandlerische Film ist inzwischen ein Kultfilm und gilt als einer der wichtigen Filme des französischen Kinos der 1970er. Garrels Briefing an Ash Ra Tempel für den Soundtrack lautete: »Musik, zu der man träumen kann«.

2025 wurde »Le berceau de cristal« vom Pariser Avantgardefilm-Vertrieb Re:Voir digital restauriert und erstmalig auf DVD und Blu-ray veröffentlicht.

The next installment of our series exploring the music of Manuel Göttsching and moving images is a screening Le berceau de cristal (1975) by Philippe Garrel. The soundtrack is by the Berlin-based Krautrock band Ash Ra Tempel, featuring Manuel Göttsching (guitar, Farfisa organ, rhythm computer) and Lutz Graf-Ulbrich aka Lüül (guitar, synth guitar).

Following the film, we will show an exclusive video excerpt from Manuel Göttsching and Lüül’s live performance of the film score in 2015 at the E-Live Festival in Oirschot, Netherlands.

After the screening there will be a Q&A with Lutz Graf-Ulbrich and Markus Schickel, editor/media designer/sound engineer and longtime technical collaborator of Manuel Göttsching, about the creation of the film score as well as its place in music history.

“Le berceau de cristal” is one of seven independently produced experimental films that the French director made with singer, musician, actress, and poetess Nico, his partner at the time. The hypnagogic film has since become a cult classic and is considered one of the most important films of 1970s French cinema. When commissioning the soundtrack, Garrel asked Ash Ra Tempel for: “Music you can dream to”.

In 2025, “Le berceau de cristal” was digitally restored by the Paris-based avant-garde film distributor Re:Voir for its first-ever release on DVD and Blu-ray.
