How can Web3 technologies support new forms of participation and community-making? Moving beyond profit-driven applications such as DeFi, this panel explores Decentralised Autonomous Organisations (DAOs) as socio-technical infrastructures for autonomy, self-determination and collective care. By focusing on artistic and cultural experiments, the conversation examines how DAOs can build trust and generate sustainable, non-extractive structures for collaboration.
As a case study, the panel will consider terra0: Autonomous Forest, commissioned by LAS Art Foundation, a prototype that explores how Web3 technologies can support new models of collective ownership and environmental stewardship. Through this approach, terra0 proposes a system in which a forest is allowed to regenerate naturally, while its legal and economic framework — enabled by a DAO — creates a new form of ownership recognised under German law. The project raises important questions about governance, non-human agency, and how DAOs might support more sustainable and inclusive forms of organisation.
