Expressive Arts Circle, Working with Leather

Dear Expressive Arts (EXA) lovers,

It is with great joy that we invite you to our next circle:
“Leather as a Transitional Point in the Narrative of Being Alive."

Create your own handcrafted leather artwork through a journey of self-discovery. By tuning into skin sensation, voice, and movement, you’ll create, explore and reflect within a small, supportive group.

This time, we will explore the sensations and fundamental qualities of skin; both human and non-human. Through upcycling this unique material, we will embark on a contemplative and hands-on journey, engaging in a dialogue with the leather: listening to its story and allowing our own narratives to emerge in a holistic, embodied form.

Each participant will create their own leather art work and be invited to share their process with the group.

"Leather is not living skin, yet it continues to respond to the world: to climate, to humidity, to touch.

When nourished, it remains flexible. When neglected, it hardens and cracks.

Skin carries the stories of time. And, to remain whole, it needs care.

What within me asks for hydration, so as not to crack over time?

What story emerges, when my skin meets this leather?

And how can the symbol of this sonic and gestural story, reveal itself visually on this leather?"

As tools for carving, hole-making, pyrography, and other techniques will be shared, we are offering only 6 spots for this intimate session.

Various leather-crafting tools will be available, along with clear instructions for their proper use. Participants are free to create according to their own pace, comfort, and imagination. No one is required to use any tools they do not feel comfortable with.

A consent form will be provided and must be signed before the session, acknowledging the potential risks and personal responsibility involved in using these tools.

You don't need any art or leather experience to join, come as you are!

About The Liminal - Expressive Arts Collective

The Liminal Circle is an opportunity to connect with yourself and like-minded people, engage with different forms of arts, and find your own language through various expressions. We meet twice a month at a beautiful space next to the Spree for imaginative exploration. The Liminal Expressive Arts Collective is run by a group of expressive arts facilitators based in Berlin.

Our Approach

The activities offered in this circle are informed by Intermodal Expressive Arts (Paolo Knill). It is an integrative, multimodal approach that utilises a variety of methods including poetry, music, visual arts, drama, sounds, clay, movement, and nature-based methods to help individuals navigate and achieve personal growth, using their own resources.

We begin the session by sharing inquiries and tuning in. The liminal space unfolds during the creative process, as we engage in guided art activities. No habitual thinking - just full presence, imagination, play, and welcoming the unexpected. At the end of the session, we reflect and share what has arrived, along with any messages or stories that need to be told.

Contribution to the event

We kindly ask every participant for a contribution to cover the rent of the space and materials. Pay from the heart sliding scale:€40/€ 45/ €50/ + per session per session (please pay directly through Eventbrite or email us for bank transfer info)

To ensure the quality of the experience, the registration will close after 12 people have signed up. Your participation is confirmed upon the receipt of the donation.

Cancellation Policy

Once the contribution is paid, refunds are not available. In case you cannot attend, if you notify us at least 3 days in advance we can transfer your reservation to a future circle.
