About the event

Embodied-somatic health experiences & visualization workshop
Somatic & movement lab workshopping the creation of movement + visualizations via 2D/3D-renderings from self-selected memories/emotions

About this Event

What will be doing: Somatic and dance lab workshopping the creation of movement phrases and visualizations via drawn/3D-renderings of body-felt sensations around self-selected memories/emotions. It will be an opportunity to inquire about emotional states and personal histories as well as speculative imagined avatars that can hold these experiences as well as their aesthetic qualities across space and time.

The workshop will be facilitated by artist, performer, and health advocate Justus Harris (he/they) who has worked with making the ephemeral aspects of chronic illness tangible and visible for the past ten years. Sophie Mars, a dance movement therapist, performer, and movement diretor will also be co-facilitating.

This workshop is not a therapy and although health and topics that may bring up intense emotions may come up, we ask for those attending to self-regulate and we will do our best to facilitate this in a way that supports this.

Please read all 'Good to Know'/FAQ items'

Who is this for: This workshop is welcomes those with lived-health experiences across a wide spectrum of life experiences. These can include health conditions, disabilities that are visible or invisible, and/or neurodivergence. Collective health protocols will be implemented for this workshop including free onsite COVID testing and FFP2 masks. This workshop is free of charge but requires pre-registration.

Brief-overview (see full agenda below):

The first part of the day will focus on movement and somatics.

The second part of the day will focus on translating these experiences into visual descriptions/forms and shared via 3D renderings (projected and shared in VR).

As part of an anonymous process of feedback, there will be an opportunity for participants to provide insight into how they perceive invisible states of health and wellbeing before and after the workshop concludes.

Workshop Offering Takeaways:

  • Increased awareness of emotional granularity that connects to an ability to translate specific feelings into movement / visual and sensory descriptions.
  • Exposure to ways that technology and visual arts can inform somatic and dance based inquiries.
  • Shared facilitated space with those with a focus on health and how to communicate about it outside of medical terms / healthcare objectives.
